John Johnson
17 yrs old & a junior at Amador High School. While John puts much time & effort into maintaining his honor student status, his music is at the forefront of his life's path! He has been playing the trumpet since 5th grade and has since gone on to broaden his horizons by learning to play piano & french horn. John is a charter member of the newly formed combined high school jazz band and of course is in the concert/marching band at school. He has been a member of the Sacramento Youth Symphony for the last three years and was previously a member of Mother Lode Youth Symphony. He performed with the Central California Youth Symphony in Belgium & France in 2006 and again in 2008 during their tour to Italy. John has garnered a number performance awards and certificates of achievement over the last few years including Forum Festival Outstanding Musician Award, University of the Pacific's (UOP) Music Camp Outstanding Musician Award and UOP's camper award, our school district's shining star award and he has been invited by several directors from the surrounding areas to be a "ringer" in their schools' band concerts, and of course has earned his Academic block in his spare time. Since 6th grade John has also performed with honor bands including our local Bi-County Honor Band, Capitol Section Honor Band, which includes students from 5 Sacramento area counties, and in February 2009 he was accepted to perform with the California Music Educators' All State Honor Band in Fresno. In addition to high school band & jazz band, John studies privately with Maurice Montgomery in Sacramento, has performed with the Sierra Symphony in Placerville, the High Mountain Brass Quintet and also performs service music at church. After high school, John hopes to fulfill a dream of symphonic conducting and possibly music education. John, along with his father Eric, also a member of the SpeakEazy Jazz Orchestra, share an un-ending passion for music....the unspoken, universal language!
