Laurie Amick

Laurie Amick started singing as a young girl when she would stand on the picnic table in the backyard belting out Judy Collins' songs for the neighborhood children. She went on to sing in choirs throughout Jr. High and High School which led to majoring in music at California State, East Bay. While in college, Laurie performed with several choirs, including the Cal State Hayward Jazz Choir where she got to perform with Bobby McFerrin. Laurie also joined the San Francisco Bay Area Chamber Choir where as a member and soloist, she performed in France, Austria, Germany, Hungary and Yugoslavia. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in music and a minor in theater, Laurie has spent her teaching career teaching classroom music, choral music and theater arts in California public schools. In her spare time, she performed in such musicals as Pirates of Penzance as Mabel, The Music Man as Marion, The Sound of Music as Maria and as the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. She met and married the love of her life when he played opposite her in The Music Man. Bob and Laurie moved to Amador County in August of 2000 and Laurie continued teaching at Jackson Elementary and then Argonaut High School and Ione Elementary. She joined Mimosa, a county vocal jazz mainstay, and has performed throughout the Sierra Foothills with them. Currently, Laurie is the Principal at Ione Elementary School. She is very excited to be performing with the Speakeasy Jazz Orchestra since she always considered herself from another era anyway!
